Bluesocket raises $9M in VC funding - Burlington, MA

Wireless networking firm Bluesocket has raised $9 million in new funding. Bluesocket has raised a total of $51M in financing, with backers including Ascent Venture Partners of Boston, Vesbridge Partners of Westborough, Mass., California's MenloVentures, and Colorado's Boulder Ventures.

Archivas raises $12M Series C - Waltham, MA

Archivas Inc. of Waltham, a maker of fixed content archiving products, has completed its third round of funding, adding $12 million and bringing the company’s total financing raised to date to more than $28 million. The new funding round was led by original investors North Bridge Venture Partners and Polaris Venture Partners. Solstice Capital, which participated in the company’s second round of funding in December 2004, also participated in the round.

Oracle Buys Open Source Software Company Sleepycat Expands Embedded Database Product Line with Berkeley DB. Oracle today announced that it has added Berkeley DB to its embedded database product line which includes Oracle Lite for mobile devices and Oracle TimesTen for high performance in-memory database applications.

GameLogic Inc. has received $18 million in a second round of venture capital funding. The round was lead by Bain Capital Ventures in Boston, GameLogic said. Existing investors General Catalyst Partners in Cambridge and Maveron LLC in Seattle also participated in the round. Waltham-based GameLogic was founded in 2002. GameLogic's products and services provide regulatory-compliant gaming designed to enable legal casinos and government-sponsored lotteries to stay connected to their players virtually anywhere there is a computer, according to company officials.

Borland Software Corp. to acquire Seque Software Inc. for $100 million - Lexington, MA

Borland Software Corp. is acquiring Seque Software Inc. for $100 million. Segue's products are used to test, tune and monitor other software applications. In the fourth quarter, the Lexington, Mass., company earned $1.1 million on $10 million in revenue. Borland (Nasdaq: BORL) has its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., and sells a range of software development tools. In the fourth quarter, it lost $9.6 million on $71 million in sales.
Borland is paying $8.67 for each share of Segue (Nasdaq: SEGU), which closed at $6.92 Wednesday.

Imprivata has raised $12 million in new financing, as it sells a system to simplify the administration of passwords for computer networks. The Lexington, Mass., company raised $13.5 million in initial financing four years ago. Imprivata's appliance allows people to sign on to a range of different corporate systems using a single password. Customers include Eagle Bank, which has locations in Lexington and Everett, Mass.
The company's backers include General Catalyst Partners, Highland Capital Partners, and Polaris Venture Partners.

Datavantage to acquire CommercialWare for $13.2M - Natick, MA

CommercialWare, a Natick-based provider of retail sales support software, has been acquired by Datavantage, a Cleveland-based subsidiary of Micros Systems that offers retail sales, analytics and marketing support software. The acquisition was priced at $13.2 million in cash. The acquisition does not include ComercialWare’s subsidiary OrderMotion.
