Anodyne Health Partners, a Portland-based provider of revenue cycle management software for healthcare providers, has raised $5.6 million in a round of venture capital from Brook Venture Partners, Frontier Capital, Brooke Private Equity Advisors and the Small Enterprise Growth Fund. Sermo Raises $3 Million in First Round of Venture Capital - Cambridge, MA

Sermo, a Cambridge-based online community for physicians, has raised $3 million in its first round of venture capital, led by Longworth Venture Partners. Sermo was founded in 2005 and introduced during a pilot phase in July 2006. The company said that the new funding will support the growth of its system, which allows physicians nationwide to discuss observations and unanswered clinical questions from their daily practice, "challenging or corroborating each other's opinions in order to improve patient care."

Whaleback Systems, a Portsmouth-based of broadband telephony technology, has raised $7.5 million in its second round of venture capital, led by Waltham-based Castile Ventures. Whaleback's technology is "premises-based and software-driven." Nexaweb Technologies Raises $10 Million in Second Round - Burlington, MA

Nexaweb Technologies, a Burlington-based provider of tools for developing web applications, has raised $10 million in its second round of venture capital. Investors in the deal include Egan-Managed Capital, Masthead Venture Partners and Velocity Partners. Also, on Monday, Nexaweb named Christian Heidelberger as its CEO. Heidelberger previously served as CEO of ChannelWave Software, a company that raised $63 million of venture capital funding and made several acquisitions prior to its acquisition by Click Commerce in 2005.

BrightCove raises $5M in a new round of funding - Cambridge, MA

Cambridge's BrightCove Inc., a developer of an open Internet TV service for video producers and programmers, has secured a new round of growth capital financing worth $5 million. GE - Global Media & Communications, a division of GE Commercial Finance, led the round, which closed on September 1.

BrightCove's previous round of funding, its second, came last November, when it landed $16.2 million from America Online Inc., IAC/InterActiveCorp., Hearst Corp. and Allen & Company LLC. The new round of funding brings the company's total amount raised to $26.2 million.

Founded in 2000 by former AT&T executives, AimNet is privately held company and has about 100 employees. Millennial Net, a Burlington-based developer of power mesh networking technology, has been acquired for an undisclosed sum by PHC Holding, a Germany-based, privately held company. Millennial Net develops commercial- and industrial-class wireless networking systems for sensing and control applications that allow equipment makers and systems integrators to build wireless sensor products and networks. The company said that it will continue to operate as an independent business.
