athenahealth IPO Raises $113 Million; Shares Soar - Watertown, MA

Shares in athenahealth, a Watertown-based provider of online business services for physician practices, surged about 85% on Thursday, the company's first day of trading as a public company after pricing its initial public offering of stock to raise about $113 million. Athenahealth offers a subscription service that provides a range of business services over the Internet, including billing and collections. The company priced its IPO shares at $18. As of mid-afternoon on Thursday, shares in athenahealth were trading at $33.40.

Enpocket to be acquired by Nokia - Boston, MA

Boston mobile advertising technology maker Enpocket Inc. reports it has agreed to be acquired by Finnish handset maker Nokia Corp. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.

Founded in 2001, Enpocket makes a mobile advertising management and delivery system designed to deliver mobile advertising across multiple platforms including SMS, MMS, the Internet, and video. The company employs approximately 120 people.

Constant Contact Prices IPO - Waltham, MA

Constant Contact plans an initial public offering of 6.7 million shares of common stock and will price the offering between $12 and $14 per share, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing from the company. Tagsys Receives $16 Million More in Third Round of VC - Cambridge, MA

Tagsys, a Cambridge-based developer of RFID infrastructure technology, on Tuesday announced that it has closed $16 million in the second and final tranche of its $35 million third round of venture capital. This brings the total amount of financing raised by the company to date to $80 million. Investors in the latest deal include J.P. Morgan, DFJ Esprit, Endeavour, Elliott Associates, Saffron Hill Ventures, and Add Partners. Tagsys provides RFID systems and tags that automate labor-intensive processes. Cognos Acquires Westborough's Applix for $339 Million - Westborough, MA

Cognos, a provider of business intelligence and performance management software, said that the acquisition will add Applix's base of 3000 customers to Cognos' existing customer base of 3500 customers. It also will add over 200 performance management experts to the Cognos team, "with particular strength in the mid-enterprise market," the company said.
