Swaptree.com Raises $3.4 Million in Third Round - Boston, MA

Swaptree.com, a Boston-based, online service that allows users to swap books, CDs, DVDs and video games, has raised about $3.4 million in its third round of venture capital, which was led by Safeguard Scientifics, a Pennsylvania-based investment firm. Swaptree.com allows users to add items they would like to trade to their "have list", and put items they would like to receive on their "want list." Its trading engine shows the user all the items they can receive in return for the items they are trading. The only expense members incur is the cost of shipping, for which labels can be purchased and printed directly from the Swaptree website. The company says it has completed 100,000 trades since its public launch in July 2007.
