Acquia Raises $7M in Series A Funding - North Andover, MA

Acquia attracted $7 million in a round led by North Bridge Venture Partners, Sigma Partners and O'Reilly AlphaTech Ventures, company officials said. Acquia developed Drupal, an open-source platform for Web 2.0 applications such as single or multi-user blogs, wikis, community networks, digital media portals, and core web content management. The Drupal platform has been downloaded more than 2 million times since it was released in 2001, the year it was originally created by Acquia co-founder Dries Buytaert.

Inmagic, a Woburn-based provider of software for managing and researching corporate information, has raised $5 million in venture capital from Edison Venture Fund. Founded in 1982, Inmagic's web-based software helps organizations to catalog, search, retrieve and publish a range of digital content. The company's product is now used by around 5,000 organizations.

Embarc acquired by The Garfield Group - Newton, MA

The Garfield Group Inc. has purchased all the assets of Embarc, an interactive marketing firm serving the biotech, pharmaceutical and health-care markets. Embarc is now known as Garfield Group Interactive and will continue its work from Newton, company officials said. Financial details of the deal were not released.

Buzzwire Raises $8 Million in Second Round - Boston, MA

Buzzwire, a Boston-based service for streaming audio and video over mobile phones, has raised $8 million in it second round of venture capital, led by Sequel Venture Partners. Other investors in the deal include Matrix Partners and Spark Capital. Buzzwire said that it will use the new investment to move from planning and testing to deployments with major carriers in the U.S. and overseas. "With a deal in place with one of the top U.S. carriers, this new round will fuel the roll-out of Buzzwire in multiple markets within the U.S. and abroad." said Andrew MacFarlane, CEO for Buzzwire.

Acinion Changes Name to Blackwave, Raises $16M in 2nd Round - Boston, MA

Acinion, a Boston-based provider of storage and delivery infrastructure technology for Internet video, on Monday announced that it has changed its name to Blackwave and raised $16 million in its second round of venture capital, led by Sigma Partners. Blackwave said that the funding round will allow it to expand its engineering, marketing and sales teams as it rolls out its Internet video storage and delivery systems in the first quarter of 2008. Other investors in the company include Globespan Capital Partners and IDG Ventures Boston.
