JAZD Raises $8 Million in First Round - Andover, MA

JAZD Markets, an Andover-based provider of online, B2B marketing services, announced that it has raised $8 million in its first round of venture capital, which was co-led by Commonwealth Capital Ventures and Pilot House Ventures. Founded earlier this year, JAZD partners with B2B publishers, industry associations and social networks to deliver online vertical marketplaces. Its service is built directory placement, traffic generation, social tools, click-track analytics and vertical search functionality.

GameLogic Raises $3 Million from Velocity Financial - Waltham, MA

GameLogic, a Waltham-based provider of Internet-based games for casinos, has raised $3 million of debt financing from Velocity Financial Group, a Wakefield, Mass.-based investment firm focused on technology, life sciences and clean energy companies. GameLogic uses Internet-based games to help casinos attract new players and interact with existing players while they are off property. The company was founded in 2002.

Salary.com to Acquire Genesys Software Systems - Waltham, MA

Salary.com, a Waltham-based developer of employee compensation and talent management software, has signed an agreement to acquire Genesys Software Systems, a privately held, Methuen, Mass.-based provider of human resource management systems (HRMS), benefits and payroll services. The deal was priced at about $6.8 million. Genesys currently services more than 1.6 million people throughout North America and had approximately $8 million in revenue for the 12 months ended June 30, 2008. The company was founded in 1981.

Bain Capital Ventures Seeking $500 Million for Fourth Fund - Boston, MA

Bain Capital Ventures, the venture capital arm of private equity firm Bain Capital, has begun raising its fourth investment fund, with a target of $500 million, VentureWire reported. Since 1984, Bain Capital has made over 126 venture-stage investments. In 2001, the firm formed Bain Capital Ventures as a separate arm to focus exclusively on early-stage deals. Bain Capital Ventures currently has close to $1 billion under management and is focused on investing in companies in the software, hardware, wireless, information-services, healthcare, technology-driven business services, retail, and consumer businesses.


SnapMyLife Raises $5 Million in Venture Capital Round - Needham, MA

SnapMyLife, a Needham-based provider of mobile photo-sharing services, announced on Wednesday that it has raised $5 million in a deal led by North Bridge Venture Partners and Carmel Ventures. SnapMyLife was launched in April 2008 and has grown to more than 1.5 million unique visitors per month and over 500,000 registered users, according to the company. Mobile phone users can go through SnapMyLife to share pictures, see location-tagged pictures on interactive maps, add favorites, comment and chat.

GlassHouse Technologies Raises $9.8 Million in VC - Framingham, MA

GlassHouse Technologies, a Framingham-based provider of data storage consulting and services, has raised $9.8 million in its first round of venture capital, according to a report by PE Week Wire. Cisco Systems participated in the deal as a new investor with GlassHouse. Founded in 2001, GlassHouse consultants analyze infrastructure environments for optimization, and assist with strategic planning and implementation. Other investors in the company include GrandBanks Capital, Jafco, Kodiak Venture Partners, Montagu Newhall Associates, Paladin Capital Management, Shiprock Capital, Dell and Sigma Partners.

Viridity Software Raises $7 Million in First Round - Amesbury, MA

Viridity Software, an Amesbury-based provider of data center management software, has raised $7 million in its first round of venture capital, according to a report in PE Week Wire, which cited a regulatory filing. Investors in the deal include North Bridge Venture Partners and Battery Ventures. Viridity’s software is designed to manage all aspects of data centers, including power, space, cooling, application performance, reliability and risk.

ExtendMedia Lands $10 Million for Online Video DistributionNewton, MA

ExtendMedia, a Newton-based provider of online video distribution services, has raised a $10 million third round of venture capital financing, PEHub.com reported, citing a regulatory filing. Investors in the round include previous backers Atlas Venture, Venrock Associates and TVM. ExtendMedia provides a platform for managing and publishing video to PCs, televisions and mobile devices. The company has created video download services for customers including Showtime, Bell Canada and SanDisk.


uTest Raises $5 Million in Second Round - Southborough, MA

uTest, a Southborough-based provider of software testing services, has raised $5 million in its second round of venture capital, which was led by Longworth Venture Partners and Egan-Managed Capital. uTest was founded in February 2000. The company offers a range of testing services, including functional, usability, load, and performance testing throughout the software product development life cycle. uTest said it will use the new investment funds to accelerate growth and continue market penetration, particularly in the web, desktop and mobile application space.

BEZ Systems Raises Additional Funding in Fourth Round - Boston, MA

BEZ Systems, a developer of predictive application and database performance management software, announced on Monday that it has received an extension of its fourth round of financing from Ascent Venture Partners, Velocity Equity Partners, and The Massachusetts Technology Development Corp. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The funds are being used to increase product virtualization support and channel development, the company said. BEZ was founded in 1993.


Clearstory Systems acquired by The FeedRoom - Westborough, MA

Digital asset management company Clearstory Systems Inc. has been acquired by online video solutions company The FeedRoom Inc. for undisclosed terms.
